Decorating a vintage kids bedroom
If you’re dreaming og a magical vintage-style kids bedroom but not sure where to start, this blog post is for you. I have packed this blog-post to the rim with vintage and cottage-style children’s bedroom inspiration, as well as tips on how to achieve the look you’re dreaming of. Let’s jump into it.
Vintage kids beds
A vintage-looking bed is a great start when designing a bedroom. Look for affordable options at garage sales, Facebook marketplace, or a local thriftstore. With a good clean and maybe a fresh coat of paint, your new kids’ bed will be good as new. You could also purchase a new bed with the vintage look. Adorn it with flowy curtains in soft pastel colors or lace for a whimsical touch.
Muted paint colours
Choose a soft and muted color palette inspired by the past, such as dusty rose, mint green, powder blue, or buttery yellow, for walls, furniture, and accessories.
Vintage Wallpaper or Wall Murals
Wallpapers can be a beautiful accent in a vintage kids’ bedroom. Opt for wallpaper with classic patterns like florals, stripes, or toile designs.
Antique Furniture
Include vintage dressers, nightstands, and chairs. Look for ornate detailing, curved legs, and distressed finishes. You could repurpose or refurbish old furniture for an authentic vintage feel.
Don’t be shy with the textiles
Have fun with soft textiles such as lace doilies, crocheted blankets, or patchwork quilts for bedding. Incorporate frills, ruffles, or even embroidered linens for a charming touch. I adore Garbo & Friends for their beautiful and soft childrens’ textiles. (Not sponsored)
String Lights
Add string lights for extra charm and cozy warmth in the evenings. Add them to the bedframe, over the window, or maybe to a bed canopy?
Forget about minimalism
When it comes to cottage-style kids bedrooms, let’s forget about minimalism for a minute. Sure, we want it clean and organized, but we also want whimsical, magical and fun! Add vintage-looking toys like wooden cars, add a bookshelf with children’s classics, and put some cozy stuffed animals on the bed. Decorate the ceiling with clouds, hot air balloons or fun garlands! Don’t be afraid to “crowd” the room with vintage art and fun pieces. Just make sure to keep the colors muted and coordinated to avoid it looking messy.
Cozy Reading Nook
Design a cozy corner with a vintage armchair, a bookshelf filled with beautiful children’s books, and a cozy rug. Add a vintage-style lamp for a warm reading atmosphere.
