This blog post is all about DIY organization ideas that won’t break the bank!
I love having a clean and organized space. I’m the kind of person who can sit and binge-watch kitchen organization videos on YouTube because I think it’s so satisfying. And those shows on Netflix where professionals come and reorganize messy homes? I’m a sucker for those too.
There is something incredibly satisfying about an organized home! But if you’re anything like me and don’t want to spend all your money on a bunch of fancy boxes, containers, and bins to store everything, organizing can be somewhat challenging. All the experts recommend having designated spots for every item, categorized in individual boxes or drawers.
The clear bins and glass jars we often see all over Instagram make everything look great, but they can get expensive. I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to go all in with the aesthetically pleasing containers to stay organized. In this blog post, I’m sharing my favorite organization hacks that are very budget-friendly, or even free!
Let’s jump into it.
The Best Organization Ideas DIY
Re-use Glass Jars
This is one of my favorite organizing ideas for the kitchen. Re-using glass jars from jams, pickles, etc is a great idea because you reduce waste while also getting containers completely for free. All you have to do is put the jam jar in the dishwasher when it’s empty, and it’s ready to be repurposed.
I use clear glass jars to store seeds, nuts, chocolate chips, coconut shreddings, and other dry goods. I have a label maker I use to label each jar. It looks great, and the see-through glass makes it easy to see how much I have left of the ingredient.
Glass jars can also be used in the bathroom for storing things like cotton pads and Q-tips!
Tip: The best way to remove old stickers from a glass jar is to soak it in warm water and dish soap for an hour or so. Everything will come right off.
Drawer Organization Idea
Dividing a drawer into different compartments is a great way to keep things organized. Instead of buying drawer dividers, you could use old shoe boxes or other bins you have lying around that fit inside the drawer.
I have used this trick in my kids’ dressers, and it works great for storing socks, underwear, and other smaller items.
This trick works in all drawers. Small and large. Just use boxes that fit in the drawer, and that are large enough for the items you want to store!
Command Hooks are Your Friend
I saw this hack the other day and I think it’s a great way to save space. Get some command hooks and place them on the inside of your kitchen cabinet doors. You can hang measuring spoons and cups from them.
Repurpose Large Bins for Storage
I love using bins and baskets to store large items. You don’t have to go out and buy all new bins. You probably already have some lying around that you can use for storing items in your pantry, living room, or bathroom. If you don’t, go to Facebook marketplace or a local thrift store. I find that baskets and bins are easy to come by, and purchasing them secondhand will save you a lot of money!
