If you love the cozy cottage decor style as much as I do, you have come to the right place. In this blog post, we are diving into the world of wooden ceiling beams, imperfect lines, country prints, and everything cozy.
I used to not know what to call my home decor style. To be honest, I still kinda don’t… It’s a mix of French country cottage, modern farmhouse, English cottage and contemporary modern.
My style is a mix of all the cottage-like, cozy styles so why not just call it cozy cottage decor? That is what this blog is aaall about – how to make your home feel like a cozy getaway!
In this blog post, I am sharing my 10 favorite cozy cottage decor ideas that you can easily implement in your home – even on a budget.
Cozy Cottage Decor Ideas
1. Checkered Print Textiles
Is it just me or is checkered print the best print? I’m always drawn to it, whether it’s on clothes, pillow cases or furniture. It is classic, kinda fun and mixes well with other patterns. I recently found a checkered-print chair at my local thrift shop and I was immediately drawn to it. I love how it looks in my kitchen under a cute plate rack.
2. Vintage Art
Vintage art keeps popping up whenever I browse Pinterest for cottage decor ideas. It’s a great way to add some personality to a space. Add a beautiful brass frame and you’re good to go. I’d say the best place to find art like this is in thrift stores! It’s affordable as well. It’s also possible to buy art prints from Etsy and get them printed in your desired size at a local print shop or photo store. I’ve done that multiple times with great success.
3. Cozy Nooks and Corners
What better way to make your home feel like a cottage than adding reading nooks and cozy corners? Why not utilize an empty corner of your home and turn it into a place for cuddling up with a good book? It doesn’t have to be expensive. If you want to create a cozy reading corner for adults, you can read all about how to do that in this blog post.
4. Woven Baskets
Natural materials are the way to go in the cozy cottage decor style. Woven baskets are a great way to add style and hide clutter. I know they may be overused but I understand why! They look 10x better than boring plastic boxes. They add a country cottage feel to a space. And anything can be hidden in a pretty basket! Cords for electronics, yarn for knitting, dog toys… You name it.
5. Earthy Colors
We have to talk about color. Walls and furniture can be painted in any color and it can do a lot to a space. To achieve the cozy cottage look I tend to gravitate towards earthy, warm colors. That doesn’t just mean beige and brown. Greens and blues can have warm hues to them. We painted the walls by our staircase in a gorgeous sage green and I love it. Colors like rust and terracotta would also look stunning. Think about colors that can be found in nature during autumn and bring them inside – this way you’ll create an inviting atmosphere.
6. Flowers on the Table
Having flowers on the table in a vase or a vintage jug is a sure winner when trying to make your home feel cozy. Just take a moment and imagine this: an abundance of white, airy cosmos flowers sitting on your kitchen table in a cute vase. Very charming! Summer is obviously the best time for flowers. You can buy cut flowers in winter too, but they’ll be imported and probably won’t last you very long. Therefore, I rarely have fresh flowers during the colder months. What you can do instead is to decorate with dry flowers. They look great and last for ages!
7. Plate Racks
Plate racks are old-fashioned, and I know my mom threw away all of her old ones a couple of years back. But they are coming back in style, especially for people who love cottage decor. I think they add a lot of charm and nostalgia to country kitchens. They are also very easy (in my experience) to come across at garage sales and thrift stores.
8. Vintage Decor Pieces
I love mixing old and new decor pieces! Functional items can also double as home decor if they are pretty. Think about jugs, vases, old clocks, and so on.
9. Intentional Lamps
Lighting matters a lot in a home, and in a cozy cottage, you want multiple lamps to create a cozy atmosphere. Large ceiling lights can be overpowering. To create a soft ambiance, go for wall scones, table lamps, or pretty pendants to hang over tables.
10. Wallpaper
Wallpaper can be a great way to make a room stand out. There are so many pretty prints to choose from. You don’t have to cover the whole room with wallpaper. Paneling on the bottom half and then wallpaper on the top half of a wall can look incredible if you mix the right colors.
