The area under the sink in the bathroom can easily get cluttered unless you have a good system in place. This blog post delves into the best bathroom organization under sink ideas.
Are you tired of constantly having to clean up the mess of shampoo bottles, hair ties and hair styling tools that have a tendency to accumulate under the sink? I get it! The area under my sink has a tendency to get really cluttered and I know why. I simply do not have a system that works. So, every few months you’ll find me taking everything out, sorting through it, and then putting it back in.
I want to fix that problem by getting a real, lasting system in place. After some research I have come up with the best bathroom organization under sink ideas, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
Bathroom Organization Under the Sink Ideas
1. Start by decluttering
This step may sound boring, but this is the best place to start, and you’ll feel a few kilos lighter once you’re done. Take everything out from your under-the-sink cabinets or drawers. And I mean EVERYTHING.
What you want to do next is create 3 different piles with these categories:
- Keep
- Throw Away
- Give Away
Put everything you want to keep in the first pile. These are the items you love and use daily. Products, tools, and necessities you couldn’t live without. Be a little strict with yourself here. You might want to get rid of that one body lotion that has been sitting there for ages without being used. There’s a reason why you don’t use it. Maybe you don’t like the smell, or you don’t like how it feels on your skin. Getting rid of items you don’t use will free up space.
Put everything that is broken, spoiled or in the “garbage” category in the throw-away pile. Empty shampoo bottles, broken razors, dried-up mascara, etc.
In the giveaway pile, put everything that is whole and nice, but that you just never use. This might be a hair tool that wasn’t the right fit for your hair, a nail polish in a color you never use, or a nice skincare product that your skin didn’t respond well to. These are items you can offer to a friend, a sister, or maybe your mother. If no one wants it, move it to the throw-away pile, or donate it. Don’t keep anything just out of obligation.
2. Categorize all your items
The next thing is to put everything from your “Keep” pile into categories. Do it in a way that makes sense to you. My categories would probably look something like this:
- Haircare
- Skincare
- Toothcare
- Towels and cloths
- Cleaning supplies
Once this is done, separate your items into even smaller categories. Q-tips in one pile. Toothpaste in another pile. Shampoos and conditioners in one pile. Hairties in another. You get the picture.
3. Put everything in it’s place
Once everything has been put into categories, it’s time to consider where these items would go. A great way to be organized over time is to make sure that everything has its designated spot. This way, it’s super easy to know where to put stuff when you clean. You also know where to find it.
You may have found some items under your sink that don’t even belong in the bathroom. Reconsider your placement of items.
You only want items under your bathroom sink that makes sense to keep by a bathroom sink.
If you have drawers, put boxes within them to separate different items. You could repurpose shoe boxes etc for this purpose, or you could purchase some designated containers that fit your drawers well. If you have cabinets or an open area under your sink, I would invest in some containers like the ones below.
4. Containers and boxes for everything
My favorite bathroom organization under sink hack is to get clear, stackable boxes for storing different items. These boxes can be purchased in a variety of sizes.
The great thing about these is that you can see exactly what the boxes contain, without having to pull everything out first. Get smaller boxes for items like q-tips, hair ties and razors. And get larger boxes for haircare products, hair brushes, toilet paper, and so on.
Another great organization product to consider is a pull-out bathroom organizer. These work great if you have cabinets under your sink, and they are great for storing skincare and bodycare!
