This blog post is all about kitchen organization tips I wish I had known about sooner!
We are currently doing a budget-friendly makeover of our kitchen. The main goal is to make it look more aesthetically pleasing, while also being incredibly functional and practical. In this blog post I am sharing the best kitchen organization hacks I’ve come across. Some of these I’ve been using for years, and some of them I’ll be implementing once our kitchen makeover is complete!
The Best Kitchen Organization Tips
1. Add Shelf Risers to Your Cabinets
This is a great way to get more use out of the space that you have. By placing shelf risers inside your cabinets, you can store more items like plates and bowls in different shapes and sizes.
These organizer shelves from Amazon have tons of good reviews, come in many different colors, and look more luxurious than the basic plastic or metal ones.
2. Organize Your Spices
One of the best ways to organize spices is to store them in a shallow drawer that is located close to your stovetop. Lay them flat in the drawer so you can easily see all of them while cooking. For an aesthetically pleasing look, you could purchase clear spice jars and label them with a label maker like the Dymo.
If you don’t have the option of creating a spice drawer, another great way to store spices is to display them on a spice rack on your countertop or a spice shelf inside a cabinet. I love the look of a wooden spice rack with clear spice jars.
3. Add Hooks to Your Cabinet Shelves
This is another great way to get more use out of your space. Install hooks to the tops of your cabinets and cabinet shelves. Use them to hang things like coffee mugs or tea cups
4. Utilize a Lazy Susan
If you have corner cabinets in your kitchen, a great way to get the most out of them is by utilizing a lazy Susan. These are great for storing pots and pans, but also containers for leftovers, lunch boxes, etc.
5. Install a Wine Glass Rack
A wine glass rack is a great way to store your fancy glasses. It’s practical and stylish at the same time. Consider installing one inside your cabinets, or hanging one on an empty wall.
6. Store Dry Goods in Clear Containers
A lot of people probably already know about this tip that is all over Pinterest, but it’s a really good one so I still wanted to include it. Instead of keeping dry goods like flour, sugar, and coffee in their original bags, store them in clear, airtight containers with labels. This way you can easily see when something needs to be restocked. If you have large drawers in your kitchen, an option is to store your containers of dry goods in there. Label the tops of the lids so you can easily get what you need. Alternatively, you could store them on a shelf in your pantry. I would recommend getting larger containers for the ingredients that you use a lot of (such as flour).
7. Store Baking Sheets, Large Dishes, and Cutting Boards Vertically
Instead of stacking large, flat items like baking sheets and larger dishes on top of each other, consider storing them vertically in a cabinet. You could DIY some dividers using plywood, or purchase some that fit the size of your cabinet. We use this storage system for all our cutting boards and it’s super practical.
8. Install Kitchen Rods with Hooks
Install wall-mount kitchen rods with hooks for extra storage. A rod will allow you to hang anything from pans to your favorite coffee mugs. You’ll free up valuable cabinet space and it also looks incredibly stylish.
9. Get a Kitchen Sink Organizer
You know the area by your sink where you store your soaps? Why not get an organizer that will make the space look tidy? Store your hand soap, dish soap, sponges, and scrubbers in one.
10. Utilize Drawer Dividers
Drawer dividers are a great way to organize all your kitchen drawers. Separate your items and utensils into categories, and you’ll easily find what you’re looking for. Drawer dividers also make your drawers look less messy.
I love these expandable drawer dividers from Amazon:
11. Add a Fridge Shelf for Extra Storage
Any flat surface can be utilized for extra storage – also the sides of your fridge. I love the idea of this magnetic fridge organizer. Simply stick it to your fridge and store useful items you reach for often. You could probably also mount this one to the side of a cabinet using screws, or even to an empty wall.
