This blog post is all about cottage style home decor ideas.
In this blog post, I’ll be sharing the best cottage-style home decor ideas for 2024. If you’re anything like me and have a goal of turning your home into a cozy oasis, I think you’ll love what I’m about to share with you.
During the pandemic a few years back, many of us craved finding comfort and well-being at home. The cottagecore trend had its peak in 2020 and 2021. We had more time than ever to daydream, romanticize our spaces, and decorate with intentionality.
English country cottages and French country kitchens became highly sought after. Homes with tons of personality and comfort were the goal for many!
You may be wondering if the cottage style is still on trend. Not that being on trend is the most important thing ever, but it does have some relevance.
I have very good news for you: YES! The cottage style is not about to die any time soon. In fact, it seems to be ever-evolving and taking over the traditional farmhouse style. It’s still all over Pinterest in 2024, and you can go all in with decorating if you love this style as much as I do.
What are the best cottage style home decor ideas?
Let’s dive into these cozy cottage decorating ideas! We’ll be looking at some traditional ideas that still work super well in 2024, as well as some more modern cottage decor ideas.
1. Patterns, Patterns, Patterns
In 2024, don’t be afraid of going a little crazy with patterns. If you look at older images of English-style cottage interiors, you’ll find that patterns are everywhere. On furniture, cushions, wallpaper, and so on.
I’m not saying you should mix 10 different patterns in a room and call it a day. That would definitely lead to overwhelm. But I am saying that you don’t have to be afraid to be a little playful! The minimalism trend has stolen a lot of personality in homes over the years, and it’s time to bring it back. Choose 2-3 patterns you like and incorporate them in your home design, whether that be on pillows, table cloths or wallpaper.
Floral and gingham prints are absolutely perfect if you’re trying to achieve a look inspired by English country cottages.
2. Wood Details
Wooden details always warm up a space, and that’s exactly what we want to achieve when decorating in the cottage style.
One of my favorite things about our current home is the wood panel ceiling with white ceiling beams. I feel like the ceiling is a piece of furniture in itself! You don’t have to have a wooden ceiling in order to create a cottage atmosphere though. Wooden details here and there can definitely do the trick! Rustic wooden shelves, wooden cutting boards displayed in the kitchen, or even wooden kitchen cabinets would instantly give you a cozy cottage feeling in your home.
3. Mixing Old and New
Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds? You don’t have to go all traditional or all modern when decorating a home. Contemporary modern is an interior design style that is extremely popular in 2024, and it mixes classic with modern.
You could add vintage art to modern picture frames, display antique pieces on top of a more modern dresser, or decorate an older, ornate coffee table with a minimalistic vase. It’s all about balance!
4. Porcelain on Display
In 2024, it’s time to go hunting for pretty porcelain pieces at thrift stores and garage sales. Maybe you’re lucky enough to have a grandma who has collected beautiful tea cups and dishes. Let her know which pieces you like, and you might just receive some of them as hand-me-downs.
Delicate, hand-painted tea cups look incredible when displayed on an open shelf, or when hung from a kitchen rod on little hooks.
5. Comfortable Furniture
When you think about cottage interiors, what do you envision? I certainly imagine comfortable nooks and corners. Sofas you can sink into. Comfortable chairs where you can relax with a good book.
Choose furniture pieces that are soft and inviting. This is a great way to create a welcoming atmosphere!
6. Mixing Metals
Mixing metals in decor is not something to be afraid of in 2024. You have a lot of freedom to play around with different colors. The kitchen may be the space where you find the most metals. Hardware, faucets, lighting fixtures, and curtain rods don’t all have to be the same color. Mixing two or three different metals creates interest and a modern twist.
I love the look of aged brass, so we have a lot of that in our kitchen. The faucet and hardware are all brass. However, I didn’t want the brass to be too overpowering, so we went for black metal light fixtures. I love how the brass and black balance each other out.
Conclusion
The cottage style is still very much on trend in 2024, but even if it wasn’t, I feel like cozy homes will always have an appeal. So have fun with patterns, beautiful metals, and wooden details in your home. Make it personal and make it your own little sanctuary!
